Cozumel questions - staying on the cheap

Understood, and can't say I disagree with the sentiment that antibiotics are overused. However, I wouldn't be taking for general "traveller's diarrhea." The last time I took Cipro, I was puking my guts out and had a fever of 103F! I think I'll continue to play it safe. I'd rather have access...

Cozumel questions - staying on the cheap

Curious why you don't give the nod to Cipro? I'm by no means a doctor, nor do I play one on TV, but I travel a bit, and have always had very good experiences with it in the far east and south of the border. I first got it prescribed to me by my doctor about 7 years ago, prior to a trip to the...

Batteries taken from my carry on bag when leaving Coz

We just got back from Coz. IIRC, there was a sign at the airport that said no more than 4 loose batteries in carry-ons, but I can tell you there was a whole bin full of batteries, so they must be pretty vigilant! I had an extra pair of NIMH AA rechargables loose in my camera bag (personal item...

    Occidental Grand Cozumel Trip Report

Great report Scoober! We just got back from Coz (July 6th - 12th), and stayed at the Occidental Grand and dove with Dive Palancar as well. First off, the trip was wonderful, and we'll certainly be going back! The Mrs. and I traveled with another couple sans kids, and this was our first...

Which LED light to use on a reef?

I'm using the Intova Tovatec IFL660: Tovatec IFL 660 Torch waterproof flashlight | Intova and it's been flawless! 220 real lumens, 8 hour burn time on 2 CR-123A's (rechargable 2000mah version seems to last about 6 hours), and the thing is tiny for the output (6.2" long by 1.5" wide), so it...

Hardside roller vs rolling duffle need some opinions

I just went with the 31" Samsonite F'lite Spinner myself. It's $151 shipped at eBags right now, and is perfect for what I was looking for! I think hardside is the safer bet during transit, and then pack a smaller mesh style backpack duffel for transit to the boat when you arrive at your...

    Dive knives

I'll take the Titanium Wenoka squeeze lock, assuming it has the nuts/bolts to mount through the BC knife grommets. Hard to tell from the pic, but it looks like it does. PM me with your payment details.

What to expect on a checkout dive?

This thread certainly is an interesting read! I just completed my OW cert and checkout dives, and wear disposable contacts as well. Personally, in freshwater, like the quarry I did my checkout dives in, I had no probelms opening my eyes without a mask. My instructor was a little surprised...

    Oceanic USB Cable

If this worked with the Pro Plus 2.1 (metal buttons), I would take it, but unfortunately Oceanic changed the cable with the newest 2.1 units, so it will only work with the older plastic button 2.0 units. Good price though for someone who can use it!

    Zeagle Ranger Medium/ Large

I'm interested in the scout bladder. Shoot me a PM with how much you're looking to get for it.

Picked up a cool new tool recently: Eezycut Trilobite...

How's the durability of the Eezycut? Anyone been diving with one for a while? I really like the design, as the longer exposed blade section looks like it would make cutting a cinch, and may even keep the blades sharper longer.

Journal of my new PADI course

I think the key with the compressed schedule classes is to read all of the materials and watch the videos beforehand. I would have felt overwhelmed by the content, had I not done so up front! I picked up my packet 2 weeks before the class started, and the instructor/dive shop owner actually...

Journal of my new PADI course

XS-NRG, great read! I just completed the classroom/pool portion of my NAUI OW (Scuba Diver) last weekend, and will be doing the checkout dives soon. While not exactly the same, it sounds like there are a lot of similarities between the two classes, as is to be expected. Instead of doing the...
