To dive or not to dive, that is the question

Wow, it is obvious that I have not been talking to the right people before. You all have really started to turn my thinking around on this subject. Thanks for the ideas, the links, and over all support. I am beginning to see that I probably need to broaden my search and dig a little...

To dive or not to dive, that is the question

The narced idea had crossed my mind. I went from 85ft to 90ft and went from anxious anticipation to more than just a bit freaked. I was not totaly panicked but I was very concerned on how quickly my state of mind had changed. At 92 feet it was literally like someone flipped a switch. I signaled...

To dive or not to dive, that is the question

Thanks for the comments. Yes, for sure I have some of issues with the deeper stuff. I think it is a little bit of claustrophobia. I am fine in tight spaces as long as I can get out when I want. I guess the deeper I go the more complicated it gets to leave when I want. I first thought it was...

To dive or not to dive, that is the question

I am seriously thinking about giving up diving. I really enjoy diving but only in shallow waters ( 0-40ft ). Unfortunately the vast majority of my diving opportunities are at depths greater than my comfort level. Because of this I only end up getting out diving a couple of times a year...

    How deep do you go?

Along with this I would also like to know why divers honestly go to the depths they go. You say that going deeper does not make a person ‘macho’ and I agree but when I listen to so many divers talk of their dive depth in a macho-esque tones it makes me wonder. They talk in terms of...

How Afraid are you of Titan Triggers?

Vicious little buggers As a youngster, while snorkeling on a reef in Am. Samoa I was approached from behind and was bit on the thigh by a 10 or 12 inch trigger fish. To this day I still check the rear view from time to time while snorkeling or diving with these guys around. I don't...

    One handed computer backlight operation?

Thanks, a couple of good points here. I hadn’t considered the assisting another diver scenario. Although I understand the light failure issue, it just would not happen with me as my redundancy plans have redundancy plans when it comes to my lighting. I am just plain paranoid about being...

    One handed computer backlight operation?

Ok, seriously, I have to ask. What is the deal? In numerous posts over the years, people have made comments about not wanting a computer without a backlight because they would have to shine their light on it during night dives and then two hands would be needed to do that. Now, when I dive...

13 cuft pony for duck dives. Is it possible?

You have mentioned a few times in this thread that you will be in less than 30 ft of water. That may be an advantage as far as DCS is concerned, but I am sure that you realize that the greatest change in volume happens in shallow water. Forgetting to exhale when surfacing from 15 ft could...

Breath hold diving augmented with H2Odyssey Extra Air Source?

I just ran across this customer product review for the H2Odyssey Extra Air Source on an online scuba shop website. By Human Fish “I normally use this for small cave dive explorations were I have no need for scuba gear. This compact air source gives me 5 good minutes to my breath capacity...

    Skilled diver vs good diver

My view is that a good diver is someone who dives well with in his or her skills envelope. Skills can be improved, but if person can’t recognise his or her own limitations then they can never be what I would call a good diver.

What did you buy that you regret?

I got a great deal on a wetsuit that I would be able to fit into after a couple more months of weight loss. I has never been wet. It is the most expensive hanger weight I own. :D

    Pony bottle vs. Spare Air?

Come on Alex, now you just became one of us. Way to keep the thread alive. :D

    Pony bottle vs. Spare Air?

Much of what you say has merit but I just don’t get the false feeling of security thing. As long as I understand capabilities of a particular piece of equipment and I also understand my requirements then where is the false feeling of security? I would assume that if you had a SA that you...

Ideas on Taking your mask off!

sassalin, I know what you are going through. I had similar problems during my course. Flooding and clearing was fine but mask off breathing was a nightmare. I worked on controlling my breathing and I also found that some head positions made this easier for me. I think that bubbles rushing past...
