Monterey conditions. (let's keep it going )

Saturday 4/18/2015 - Showed up late to Monterey Sea Otter's Dive Club San Carlos Beach cleanup, however there was another late diver, with whom I was buddied up with to pick up trash along the B/W wall. Surgey with the WNW swell but calmed and cleared up the farther out we got, improving to...

Monterey conditions. (let's keep it going )

I was at Lobos today as well, so it would be redundant except for this was my first dive and my buddies second. We dove 2 basic dive plans sent to me by Keith.M and both were great intros to the easy stuff. Dive 1 was a swim out to sand channel to just between Cannery Point (parking lot...

    Sometimes optimism isn't enough

Finding out everyone I have talked to, has their own slang for nearly everything Divemaster. So, no charge to take the PADI Divemaster Final 120 question 2 part test. (I passed this today) So, the 'test fee', is in reality 'Application Fee' of which PADI charges $ 99 to Divemaster's submitting...

    DM candidate progress

Yes, its the first time I have done "buddy breathing" that is defined as sharing the same secondary main regulator. (Not to be confused with the Out of Air/Breath from alternate air source taught in OW) There is a technique and protocol for it, for example don't take an extra breath unless you...

    DM candidate progress

then I got 2 points. - The "instruction" was on buddy breathing. So "stress test" is the slang for this exercise, interesting.

    Sometimes optimism isn't enough

I liked all the inputs, and its great to get perspectives. If I had the power to change something, it would be to publish all costs and responsibilities for the PADI DM, Assistant and OWSI programs up front. So if you even begin to consider it, a brochure would be placed into your hands. Make it...

    Sometimes optimism isn't enough

Hey Keith - I did rescue back in October 2012 - defiantly a class worth the time, energy and $$. I realize I didn't finish my sentence after the list of cost's. I knew about them, but I was optimistic that I could handle them and somehow justify it. As far as the shop, my friend's shop (the...

    Sometimes optimism isn't enough

In regards to PADI DM. I have been to 3 OW / DSD classes so far where I helped out and assisted. I enjoyed it thoroughly, training others is one thing I seem to be fairly good at. The material is not an issue nor is my instructor, he is one of the best. My issue is the cost. I guess I never got...

Oceanic Dive Knife - Breakwater July 28, 2013

I really hate to post this, but I dumped most of my gear behind my car (parked on the B/W wall) on a tarp, so I could run to the Breakwater restroom after a boat dive. I took the important stuff with me, wrist mounted computer and compass. So I either dropped the knife or someone came by...

I dove Cabrillo Point Sunday, and skipped B/w in the afternoon due to vis conditions, I saw those 2 grey boats dragging nets too, I thought the area was protected ???

Niihau season is starting for divers visiting Kauai!

Ni'ihau - Lehua Crater. 3 tank dive with Bubbles Below On Sunday April 28th 2013, I arrived at Port Allen and being a little early, I went down to the docks to see if I could spot the B.B. boat, did not see any dive boat in any of the slip's. Niihau season is starting for divers visiting Kauai!

Just an update, my last chance for Ni'ihau was cancelled due to bad conditions in the channel. Alternate is Mana Crack off the Na Pali Coast, which is great, since I get to see Na Pali from a boat between dives. I will post if time permits after the dive. I'm thinking the Mana is just gonna be...

    Koloa Landing Po'ipu Kauai

I took some notes from Kyle and made sure I was there when it was least busy , about 11pm-1pm. Kyle does make you feel like a regular and will take the time to explain the hows and why's of the local dive ops. I came away feeling like this shop knows how to treat their customers. Everyone at...

    Koloa Landing Po'ipu Kauai

I did one shore dive at Koloa Landing. Sea Sport Divers is just up the street, so it was a logical choice. $7 ea. for weights, wetsuit (3mm) and tank. You can rent 2 tanks but even if you don't use the second tank, you are still charged. Easy entry and protected area, its an old boat ramp. The...
