    Dork Divers Manifesto

Yeah buddy! Someone else who uses a primary/integrated-inflator/octo/pony setup! Have you ever gotten a funny if you get bored during a dive and practice switching between all four sources? It's so worth it.

    lead toxicity...

When it comes to protecting the environment, you could use coated lead weights or coat your own weights. Your coating could be as simple as a rubberized "rugged "paint or a very hard 2-part epoxy. Coatings will last longer if you make your lead with a higher percentage of antimony. They'll be...

    Dork Divers Manifesto

I'm a dork. Hey, I dive with an Air-2... AND a standard octo! (the octo to practice hand-offs to students, but it's usually removed for rec diving. Maybe I'll start leaving it on? And when diving with students, I am required by PADI to wear a snorkel. It's blue.) And for rec diving, I often...

    Two cylinders-1 Nitrox, 1 Air

Well, as long as you have a good nitrox mix for the depth of the first dive, I would go nitrox first and air second. The way, you have less of a nitrogen load for the second dive. If you're using a computer, some of them won't let you out of "nitrox" or "EAN" mode until your residual load is...

the difference between air and regulators that doboth air and oxygen

PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG, but... Just about any "99/100% oxygen" regulator would probably deliver air. The problem is that most SCUBA "grade E" air fills are not oxygen compatible because grade-E air contains traces of hydrocarbons (compressor oil) that while not poisonous to breathe...

    used Zeagle LTD

If it's actually in good condition with no valve or bladder leaks, it's a fair price.

Are these used tanks any good?

I have three of those tanks, and love them. They're a little heavier than some of the new "exempt" HP steel tanks, but that's just a couple pounds I can leave out of my pockets. If you decide to pass on them... PM me!

Enjoy coral reefs while you can!

Actually, our current "fuel demand" for automobiles is the great waste-disposal opportunity given today's technology. My personal car is a Volkswagen Golf, which I run on 100% biodiesel. This requires no modification of the car, and the fuel is produced entirely from vegetable oil. Curret...

    Doubt on wrist computers!

I'll put in a vote for the Mosquito, never a problem with mine (other than one being stolen... grrr!) and at least a half dozen friends also having no problems with theirs. On a side note, I think the yellow mosquito looks much nicer than the all-black version.

SAFE SECONDS `to buy or not to buy`

Heck, I've solved the dilemma by carrying both. I like my AIR2, and as long as you know how to manage the BC's other air dumps, no problems in ascent. But adding a "standard" octo was desirable when I started assisting with OW instruction. Haven't removed the AIR2, which breathes just fine at...

For computer users only... safety stops.

My safety stop is normally three minutes only. If I'm coming straight up from much deeper than 60 feet (as opposed to gradual shallowing late in the dive) I try to stop at about 30 feet for 1-2 minutes.

SparticleBrane: I have some tanks you can borrow if you need more practice in perfecting your cleaning technique.

New Reg Purchase - Any opinions on these?

The Zeagle is a great reg, and the trimetal is very nice too.

What do veteran divers think about Air vs Nitrox

I've always enjoyed diving Nitrox, but it's not always practical (as in, readily available) at many dive locations. In those cases, I'm happy with air. Working as a divemaster, it's common to spend a weekend in relatively intensive quarry diving. Mornings with 'Open Water' students...

    volo power vs. Quatro Excel

I tried out a pair of Excels in the pool, and they are STIFF!!! If you like that kind of thing, you'r ein luck. Personally, it was too much for me.

Wrist Top Computer Divers...compass configuration question

Oceanic makes a compass boot (holds just about any standard compass including their own) which clamps onto your hose. I have a wrist-mount compass for dives where I will be using it heavily, but most of the time I just have one screwed to my octo hose. The side benefit is, looking at the...

    Suunto Cobra Failure

Seems to be an issue with some Cobras. I like the computer, and a lot of my friends have them. Unfortunately, they don't seem to be as "bullet proof" as most Suuntos, but not terrible in the total failure-rate scheme of things. It seems like most Cobras are fine, but some of them develop...

    Deep cycle batteries

True deep cycle batteries are different. And Battery Plus probably isn't dishonest enough to claim that any of theirs are deep cycle, like some other battery sellers mentioned above. Most marine/RV/golf cart "deep cycle" batteries are actually semi- or hybrid-deep-cycle, and still suffer from...

Aladin Prime DC versus Suunto Mosquito

I own a mosquito, but the shop I DM for has Primes on their rental gear, so I get to deal with both on a regular basis. They both do good calculations and by the numbers, are good computers. But the prime is harder to program/change settings (if nothing else, it has two buttons instead of...

    Work of Breathing

Okie, If you want to look at a great-performing regulator for a low price, consider the Cressi-Sub Airtech. It sells for the low $200 range, and every review and user comment I've seen is positive.
