So our atmosphere is composed of ~79% Nitrogen and ~21% Oxygen and we're now low on both of those things?

    Moving to SD

San Diego Divers are the de facto experts on diving gases in San Diego. I'd call them and ask about your needs. I'd also ask for Lonnie, one of the owners. He should be able to lay out the landscape of what tech divers are doing down here. EDIT: I should also add that Marissa Dive Charters...

Fire on dive boat Conception in CA

I was literally one minute away from posting the same link. I don't think it's been presented in this thread yet. Here's an interesting comment: Fritzler: "No. On the back deck, that was one of the last things to burn, there [were] some oxygen bottles that the divers use. The rest of the scuba...

Fire on dive boat Conception in CA

I do not believe that is the escape hatch for the berthing area. I believe that is the escape hatch for the engine room. The Vision has a similar escape hatch, per pictures in THIS previous thread.

Fire on dive boat Conception in CA

Agreed. So far I've read: That Truth Aquatics had a 100% fatality rate among paying customers That The Conception was poorly maintained based on a short video (of the wrong boat no less) That the operator compromised safety for revenue by stuffing as many people into a dive boat when there is...

Fire on dive boat Conception in CA

NOTE: A LOT OF CONJECTURE ABOUT THE CONCEPTION SEEMS TO BE COMING FROM A VIDEO POSTED IN POST #275 (page 28). THIS IS A VIDEO OF THE VISION, NOT THE CONCEPTION. Both owned by Truth Aquatics, but not the same boat. Although it wouldn’t surprise me if the Conception had similar emergency hatch...

Fire on dive boat Conception in CA

The point of this forum is not necessarily to definitively determine the cause of an accident. The purpose is also to have a meeting place to discuss in a measured and thoughtful way how an accident *may* have occurred. People can and should speculate on the cause, so long as the logic is...

Fire on dive boat Conception in CA

I've heard that the Vision, Great Escape, and Horizon were all sister ships. Didn't know The Conception and Truth were related too. I don't believe any reports so far have published a full manifest of the boat. Based on THIS post #32 it *appears* that it was a dive group based in Winters...

Fire on dive boat Conception in CA

Actually now that you mention it, I have been on two Truth Aquatic dive boats in my life. One was the Vision when they were running out of Moro Bay to dive Big Sur. Another was the Truth out of Long Beach to dive Santa Barbara Island (one of the Channel Islands). I know for sure the Long Beach...

Fire on dive boat Conception in CA

On the dive boats that I've been on in So Cal that have below deck bunks/living areas, there is an emergency hatch that I *thought* was a mandatory feature on these types of boats. These hatches are always discussed during the mandatory safety briefing. Are you saying that this boat did not have...

Right Ear Has Bled on Two Consecutive Dive Outings

Well I appreciate both replies. They prompted me to go to an URGENT CARE physician. Actually turns out it was a Physician's Assistant, and I was lucky to have gotten him. He's been in the Navy 25 years and is very familiar with divers and has examined MANY of their ears. After looking in my...

Right Ear Has Bled on Two Consecutive Dive Outings

On August 9th I did a single dive to about 90ft max depth (probably about 50ft avg depth); total dive time was about 1 hour. That was a Thursday. On Saturday morning I felt a wetness in my right ear that I thought was from a shower one hour earlier. The wetness persisted throughout the day and I...

Accident on Southern Cal Oil Rigs Dive

For me, it's probably the best single dive in Southern California. Here's my favorite video from the Rigs, created by "Rainer" here on Scubaboard: One aspect of the Rigs that I haven't heard discussed is how there is often a "layer" on top of the water column. Typically from 0 to 60 ft there...

    Memorial plaque at Shaw's Cove

Hmmm. There's still a strange, unique requirement there to dive with a snorkel. Is that a vestige of your efforts?

Can you elaborate on how ROV photos can confirm someone was diving Nitrox?

    Huish

A friend of mine sent his BARE drysuit off to have a hole fixed. It came back with four holes. That was just one of a few issues. He said they're super nice but also super incompetent.
