Any one thinking about becoming an instructor?

    I was legitimately interested.

What dive center are you working out of in the great white north?

    Tobermory Charter Operators

Kelly and the team at Divers Den run a fantastic operation. I do 3 or 4 trips with groups of my divers every season to Tobermory. Their best boat is Deep Obsession which comfortably dives 16 divers. Second choice would be Proteus which dives 12.

PADI - What have you done to ScubaEarth Dive Log locations?

ScubaEarth is being replaced with MyPadi. I think perhaps your issue is either temporary, or a result of the change. The good news is that the new version looks great, and is faster and easier to use. I don't know for sure, but I think anything you have entered in Scuba Earth will be...

Why Padi wants to create a community and sell trips

I think PADI sees a bigger opportunity to bridge a gap for divers, and to offer an easy method for shops and even individual instructors to execute trips for their student base. Result will be better opportunity for advancing continuing education courses / refreshers, but also it will just get...

    Reef condition

Thanks for the additional info. :) We will be renting a truck while we are there, is break in / theft a regular problem?

    Reef condition

I have never been to Bonaire, but I have heard from so many of my dive friends how amazing it is. My original Dive Buddy from my Open Water class and I have finally made a plan to go on a trip after years, and we leave for Bonaire in a month. I was super excited until reading this thread...

What's the most unpopular benign/non-polarizing opinion you hold re: diving?

I have a soft spot in my heart for nefariously turning my buddy into a scooter when he is not looking. :rofl3: Could be cold water, could be the sunny warm reef, doesn't really matter to me. I enjoy the quiet satisfaction of floating just above him, and gripping his tank strap gently and...

Should I go Full Metric from the Start ?

ABSOLUTELY!!! :) Metric is soooooo much easier for everything. 1 atmosphere = 10 meters. 1 Litre of water weighs 1 KG. OR 1 atmosphere = 33 feet. 1 Cubic foot of water weights 62.43 pounds It seems humans were made to follow base 10 math in their head easier...

Absolutely..... I stand corrected..... and I stand with stuartv. :) Every diver benefits from DAN, and they do deserve our support!

    Injuries and diving

Contact DAN, and talk to a medical professional. I don't think many on here would be comfortable or qualified to suggest otherwise. :) Scuba Diving Medical Safety Advice — DAN | Divers Alert Network

    My midwater buoyancy sucks

You are looking at the profile after the dive. That's the first step. Buoyancy is something that takes time to master, and practice to keep. The more you dive, the more you will notice the subtle changes as your depth changes. In the mean time, keep a closer eye on your computer to...

    Dangerous lies?

The most dangerous lie I was ever told..... "Sure.... go diving if you want to." I was all -> :yeahbaby: It was a sunny Saturday morning, and I though I had heard the sweet sound of a loving wife saying what she actually meant...... Those were the days before I was fluent in "lady-speak"...

    Observed an OW class yesterday

Just another perspective......a dragging guage or a loose cylinder band, and most certainly stirring up the bottom are all part of open water classes. It doesn't matter how good you are today, we all were that person at some point. If you see something that you think will harm someone, I would...

Grand Cayman next week Apr 11/15

There is a small dive shop in GC - DNS divers. I dove with them last year, and they were by far the best I have dove with anywhere. I'm not sure how their prices rate to be completely honest, but IMO it is well worth it...

The Local Dive Shop and Their Advantage

It seems that I am in a lonely position on this point. :) It is ok.... I am good company. LOL I am not suggestion that dive shops should operate under the idea they are doing a favour, nor that they are in an equal 50/50 symbiotic relationship. Shops need to work to earn customer loyalty, and...

The Local Dive Shop and Their Advantage

Respectfully, you are wrong. Every relationship, professional or otherwise is a two way street. It doesn't have to be weighted 50/50, but there certainly needs to be a balance. Perhaps you don't need to dive to out food on your table, that isn't the point, and is very short sighted. I see...

The Local Dive Shop and Their Advantage

Do you vote? The idea that your $50 doesn't contribute significantly to the sustainability of the business is plain wrong. True... that $50 may not make the difference. But if 75% of their clients chose not to spend that same $50 once a year? Wow. I will concede that it is not wrong to...

The Local Dive Shop and Their Advantage

Hi Stuart, I think we are talking about the very same thing from different sides. My 9 looks like your 6. :) ....... but you are really not doing the store a favour by shopping there. It is a transaction by which they provide a product and service while you provide $$$ for them for it...
