    Olympus E-330, Pt-E02, Athena TTL

For a P&S shooter who really likes to use liveview this rig is an excellent upgrade to a dSLR. The Olympus E-330 has a live view that actually works underwater. The Camera has two sensors, one that provides the live view feed and the other that focuses and shoots. This eliminates the shutter...

Underwater video up. Only underwater video. Camera flooded. Seems like I have poor luck with video cameras.

    Nikon Lenses

60 vs 105 depends on the conditions. In clear water the 105 creates 1:1 macro at about 7-8" working distance. That makes it easier to not spook the fish and to set the strobes. The 6mm acheives 1:1 about 3-4" meaning less water. your choice

    Need some help

I have a D-300 in a Seatool housing. You should check out the total price of that setup versus a d-90 in an Aquatica or Nauticam. The D-300 does not do video but is available at discount. The Seatool housing is excellent. You should shoot in RAW and for macro you'll use a single spot focus...

    Live View or Viewfinder

House the D-90.....no question. Housings are more than the camera. The D-90 is a modern cropped sensor rig that is unlikely to be improved on much in the future. You will get 5 years out of the D-90. Nikon live view DOES NOT work underwater. It is too slow. Forget about it!

    Software Preferences

I am a Photoshop Cs4, soon Cs5 user. I have Lightroom but havn't gotten into it. If you shoot n RAW, then the newest RAW converter is what you want. Adobe is adding features to this all the time. You get RAW with Photoshop, Elements and Lightroom BUT older versions can't use the latest raw...

    After a 2nd strobe for my D90

The Inon z-240 is certainly a nice strobe but unless you can use the fibreoptic connection (flash must pop up) I would stay with Ikelite.

Nikon D90 + Ikelite : Would this set up work?

I have used both the Ikelite and metal housing. TheSeaTool that I have is more precisely built and the controls are somewhat more positive. HOWEVER, there is NOTHING WRONG with an Ikelite housing. It is certainly not fragile. The h20 pro guy is correct. 1-Start with a 60mm Nikon lens and a...

Why Do DSLRs not have shutter lag?

Correct. The only thing you can't do is snap of a shot of a moving subject at exactly the point you want if the movement is causing the focus point to change. Shooting a macro shot with a good dslr, the photographer will set the single focus point on the eye. When the critter is in the proper...

Olympus PT-E06 housing and E-620 review

We are a dual family. My wife shoots Olympus (E-330 & E-620 in Oly housings) and I shoot Nikon (D-300 in a seatool housing). My view. The equivilent to a Nikon D300/D-90 Canon 40D/50D is the Olympus E-3. However the E-620 is quite good. The LONE complaint my wife has is that changing the...

    Nikon D90.......?????

Several comments. 1-Consider a used D-80 or D-200. I just sold a D-200 Ikelite housing and multiple ports for $750. I have a D-300 and I don't think the difference is that much between it and the D-200. (The only real advantage is battery life) 2-Don't underestimate the AF-105-VR. Unless you...

    what lens next

I shoot mostly in clear water and use the AF-105-VR almost exclusively. To get 1:1 with a 60mm you need to be 3-4in from the critter (lens port-to-subject) while 1:1 with the 105 is 8-9in. The difference between getting 3-4 inches from a skittish critter and 8-9 inches is huge, trust me.

    DiveAssure vs Dan

I have both. 1-Dive Assure, in it's highest form covers non-diving medicine. It is not limited to dive related stuff as long as you are on a dive trip. Specifically "Emergency medical, rescue and evacuation expenses for both diving and non-diving related injuries and sicknesses. No...
