Any restrictions on diving Mirror Lake in Lake Placid, NY?

Is there anything to see in Mirror Lake? I've dove a couple other lakes and ponds in the area. Suggestions for other locations to dive? Thanks Patrick

Quarries - What's up with that?

If you want to see fish in a quarry, go to Gilboa Quarry in Ohio. They have a couple there...... Just make sure to wear a hood and gloves. Otherwise your fingers and ears will become fish food.....

Help Identifying a Dacor First Stage

This seems to be a timely thread.... My Dacor that looks just like that has IP creep as well :( I have no idea how high it was headed, but it did lift the pressure relief valve. The 46200705 kit should be all I need to service the reg? Anybody have service manuals handy? I do have dive shop...

Got to dive a Gorski Helmet yesterday

Generally the term umbilical is used for the connection to the surface. It is generally comprised of at least three parts at a minimum. 1 - Breathing air hose, provides air (or mixed gases) to breathe 2 - Communications cable, lets you talk to the surface and other divers 3 - Strength member...

Got to dive a Gorski Helmet yesterday

Commercial diving equipment is fun to dive. I've done a number of dives using different commercial helmets and masks. My first dive in a Kirby Morgan Superlite 37 Stainless Steel helmet was exactly 9 days after I got my open water scuba certification. It was quite the experience going from not...

Are full face masks “less chilly”?

I feel like wearing my OTS Guardian full face mask makes the water feel like five degrees warmer than using a regular mask/reg. All my dives are cold water, usually wear a 7mm john/jacket. But once I was wearing my 5mm one piece suit and in LATE JULY found a pond that had temps of 37 degrees at...

    Finding camera owners?

Yea, it seems like the stability of a gopro camera can be an issue. Movements can be pretty fast when they are head mounted. I do now have two other videos posted. I hope to be able to find the owners of these other two. They are both from the same summer camp in PA. Patrick

Fish whirlpool around my head—weirdly fun

No fish whirlpool around your head thread would be complete without a video of my friend Kevin diving Gilboa Quarry out in Ohio...... He had to swat them away like flies. Patrick

    Finding camera owners?

I had not thought about that before, but its a good idea. The cliff in question is a location where you have to boat to, so I'm not sure how often people go back there to check and see if things have been found. I think the two other GoPro cameras will be much easier to find their owners. Turns...

    Finding camera owners?

How much luck have people had finding owners for cameras and other items that have been found underwater? Any techniques other than looking at the photos and checking to see if they are geotagged? I went on a dive Sunday and during the dive I found THREE GoPro cameras and an iPhone 8...... I...

Hardhat diving; Mark V kit in Key Largo

A MkV definitely can be used as a shallow water helmet thrown over the shoulders. A couple years ago we had a young lad who dove it that way. He even made his own diving dress to go with it. We kept him on a pretty short leash. This was at Dutch Springs in PA with the North East Diving Equipment...

    Don't help?

This is the quickest photo that I could find on my website from this spring. Just got home from my fall vacation where we dove commercial and historic gear. We get lots of practice putting on gloves.

Has anyone seen or used the new Scubapro Hydros Pro BCD

I've noticed that my bladder on my Hydros does slide back and forth a bit. Never gave it much thought. I'll have to pull it apart and make the adjustment to the bungy when I have some free time. Here are photos of my Hydros. The first one is with the bungies centered. The other one is offset to...

Why are the divers on "Shark Week" so sloppy/crappy?

Anybody see Guy Fieri's "scarry moment"? The video goes from showing him wearing a Diveways FFM to an OTS Guardian FFM or are they just trying to confuse the audience? The audio is definitely not synced up with clip wearing the OTS.

Nitrox: No Decompression Limit - Ascent

What model is your dive computer? If you bought it at your LDS, go there and tell them you are confused with it and have them explain it to you hands on. On my computer, if I have an ascent rate violation, it will give me a ceiling and indicate I have to stop for a bit. Somewhat confusing the...

Why aren’t there “River Diving” classes?

Yep, dove there Sunday morning. There was massively less water than what was in the video though. The kayakers were going down springtime flows at about 1,500 CFS or so. We dove it when it was only 50 CFS. Here is a picture of similar flow as to when we dove it:

    Show me your Selfie!

Another technically not SCUBA selfie, but I've actually dove this mask on scuba in the past.

Why aren’t there “River Diving” classes?

How bout a "river diving with a chance of getting landed on by a whitewater kayaker" specialty? I just completed my AOW this weekend and we dove at the base of a waterfall that is a popular whitewater kayaking spot when there is enough water in the river. Lucky for me, the river flows don't...
