Hello, I used to be an active diver (14 dives per month all within 45 min drive from home...Northern NY). Recently I moved to ABQ New Mexico. Besides the Santa Rosa Blue Hole ( a 2 hour drive). Is the anywhere else to dive?
Also an overnight weekend adventure...Southern Colorado, Western Texas...
Coldwater diving varies from person to person. I have a drysuit and a 7mm wetsuit. I have been under the ice in both and "chilly" but not uncomfortable in both.
The game changer is out of the water.
Standing in a wet 7mm wetsuit after a dive on a frozen wind whipped lake is brutal, Standing in...
I recently brought my Aqua Lung Air Source 2 back to my LDS for its first annual inspection.
The price I was going to be charged (until I bitched and moaned) was outrageous. I asked the service tech what he did to inspect the part and he stated "that he remove some sand from the inflate button."...
I'm wondering if a Tips or Hacks section from divers would be fun and worthwhile to have. A lot of us modify our gear, and have other dive related shortcuts and fixes.
So you are all talking about not even having the dive flag rope wrapped from the start of the dive? I was talking about shore diving where I have to constantly unwap during descent and wrap during ascent. I suppose having a thick polypro line entirely loose right from shore makes sense because...
So now I really am wondering... Have there been any fatalities due to dive flag usage? IE: entanglement, being dragged by a passing boat, someone shooting at the flag...ect.
I have come to use an inflatable inner tube-like device with the dive flag above it, and a center area with a bottom that I can put a bottle of water and other stuff in, so it make the flag seem a bit more useful. DivemasterDennis
Yes it is useful- It holds beer. Unless you surface to find the...
I agree that dive flags are unnecessary. How many time have dive flags attracted boaters. I wonder if dive flags/ lines have caused fatalities? I do love the SMB idea at the end of a dive. Although sometimes this is confused as a distress signal. Maybe a different SMB that indicates a diver is...
I have been diving since 1985 since then I have lost or got fouled up in more dive flags/lines than I can count.
I moved to the west coast -no dive flags needed- I should have stayed because of that reason.
I have been back east now and have lost every dive flag that I was in charge of.
I have...
I have been a DM since 2001 with the thought of becoming an instructor. Being a DM kept me active as a diver assisting instructors, and gave me discounts on gear. I have decided NOT to become an instructor due to the commitment an instructor has to endure. I carry insurance, but DM keeps me a...
At 265' monitoring your life support, trying to be aware of your surroundings, and trying to keep your head together in general, can you imagine the WTF!!!??? moment the discovering diver must have gone through. (probably thought he was hallucinating or his gear or mix was bad). In Lake Tahoe...
Thanks for the article. Seems like a lot of trouble to go through now at my age. But I will research the MD's around here and see what they think.
Thanks
Greg
I have made over 3000 dives since 1985. In the last few years I have had trouble equalizing in my right ear. My ENT checked it out and stated that I had Exotosis (extra bone growth in the ear due to frequent cold water diving). There is a medical proceedure to scrape the bone growth out. Has...
My first digital was a VEO 100NX. It is a basic entry level computer with easy to read numbers and one button did it all, even Nitrox. I loved this computer, easy to understand. I had approx 35 dives on it and then it started giving me strange data. Because it was under warranty it was replaced...
I have never been on an exotic dive vacation. I have time coming up the week of April 20th. It was suggested that I go to the Ocotal resort in Costa Rica. Any tips, thoughts, or suggestions?
Just like my hiking GPS... I would like to see a small device that displays the current track as I am swimming. Then I could turn around and follow it when I am heading back to my starting position.
