Trip Report A Trip to Thailand 17 Months Late!

After buying a new camera and housing in January 2020 I was really looking forward to my trip to Thailand and Indonesia in April/May of 2020. Three days before I was due to fly out the UK Government put the rest of the world on a no-fly list. Not getting on the flight was tough but I did...

    2021 Page

I normally go straight to the Forums page then login. Recently I can still do this, but then after a few seconds I am taken to a page that says 2021 (just 2021). Using the back arrow takes me back to forums and it does not happen again. I already know the year, so do not need this new feature ;)

    Battery Dilemma...

Dear Ike Staff, I am trying to decide what to do with my DS-161 strobe batteries, hopefully you can answer a few questions for me. They currently have NimH cells, which after approx. 1000 cycles are now showing their age and lasting only 1/2 the charge time of my SLR battery. This is not...

    DS-161 Battery Upgrade?

Hi, I own some DS-161 strobes with the older NiMH battery packs, is there an "Upgrade option" I can use to change over to the newer Li-Ion battery packs and chargers? The older upgrade option for DS-125's to 160 or 161 was great.

    D6i Max Depth Reset

Hi, I recently had my computer serviced, and as part of that they pressure tested it to 60m. That value is now stuck in my history as maximum depth so I would like to reset it. The manual states it can be reset using DM4, so I downloaded and installed DM4 and while the software works and...

Uploading Video Fails (HTTP Server Busy Error)

Hi, I have beem trying to upload video files, but whenever I try I get an HTTP Server Busy error a little while after the loading process starts. I am using the same method as for photos (that works), just selecting a .wmv file instead of jpeg. Any ideas what is happening?

    SLT-A65, Bigger than a NEX.

I recently had the chance to upgrade my not very old Sony A55 to a more recent A65 so I thought I'd post some pictures. While being more of a pain to travel with than the NEX series, it does have the advantage of having a wide range of lenses currently available, and for me the ability to use...

Phuket & Similan Pictures (Maybe too many pictures...)

Have just returned from Phuket (again!) and am suffering a little from Work Shock, so I thought it’s time to post some pictures. All the diving both day and live-aboard was done with Sea Bees Diving, and all the sleeping was done with Palm Garden Resort and the live-aboard Marco Polo. Started...

Caution: Sony SLT-A33/55 and older Sigma Lenses

I just picked up a new SLT-A55, and was hoping to use it with my Sigma Lenses. I was surprised when it did not work! Two things were sometimes happening after taking a shot: 1. A "Camera Error" would appear 2. The camera would lose the ability to autofocus and image on camera looked...

    Similan & Phuket Diving (Pictures)

Have just finished another trip in the Andaman Sea, one week in the Similans and some "day" diving out of Phuket and would like to share some images & have a little fun :) Ever wondered what is inside a GPF? The answer is surprising - MORE Ghost Pipe Fish Forget the Coral Bleaching...

    Happy Holidays Thailand

Title say's it all - Happy Holidays! Here's a Christmas Tree [Worm] to get you in the mood. Looking forward to another year with (mostly) the same questions: "I'd like to do my divemaster, is there a shop where I can get it by just going on free live aboard trips?" "Can anyone...

A week in the Similans - in Pictures! (a lot of pictures)

Following up from my day dives in Phuket http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/thailand/326281-phuket-day-diving-pictures.html I jumped on a live aboard for a week diving in the Similan (& Surin) Islands off the West Coast of Thailand. The Similans are a chain of fairly small islands that run North...

Phuket Day Diving - In Pictures!

I've just spent the last couple of weeks day diving in Phuket, so I thought I'd share some of the critters spotted in the immediate area (High Season, late Feb/early March). I have dived here year round, and surprisingly few animals are seasonal. The only one that comes to mind are the Ghost...

    Getting Bored, Very, Very Bored

Yes, getting extremely bored with every single Thailand thread getting dragged into complaints about Pattaya and people baiting the person who complains. How about doing all us uninterested parties a favour and limiting the abuse to the "Bash" thread? The rest of us can go back to enjoying...

    Lembeh 10 Critter Challenge

I’ve just returned from some really excellent diving based at Kasawari Lembeh Resort in (you guessed it) Lembeh Straits. Having now stayed there in January, July, August, September and October I really wonder why people consider the area to have a low and high season (for Lembeh). Critters...

A Challenge for the IT Minded - G9 Hack

I've been struggling for a while with the issue of upgrading my current setup, I'm still reluctant to go "all the way" to an SLR because there's just too much baggage attached - although the LiveView and specs of the new Sony a-350 are tempting. I thought the Canon G9 would be a fantastic...

Liveaboard Diving without a Boat! – Trip report Northern Sulawesi Part 1 of 2

In December I started to put together a plan for a dive trip to the Manado area, I have dived this area a few times before on a live-aboard with stays in dive resorts (KBR & Minahasa) before and after. I really liked the itinerary starting in Lembeh Straits, going north to the volcanic islands...
