Search on for lost diver... New Smyrna Beach, FL

Diver indicated distress at surface, which usually either means panic or health condition, or both. If I had to venture a guess - perhaps he didn't think to inflate his bc or drop weights. When stressed, many people forget simple things because in tunnel-vision panic mode. Really hope they...

Do rescue divers take a compass reading on distressed diver at surface??

They teach you to evaluate the situation and determine if in water or out-of-water actions are appropriate first. Out-of-water options include throwing buoy and/or line to diver, for example. If in gear, one method is to submerge and approach diver from under and behind, then surface and grab...

Search on for lost diver... New Smyrna Beach, FL

Read an early post on another board from the boat captain for this incident (deleted now) - sounded like he did everything right in the situation, but still taking it hard...........whenever there's a situation/incident like this, the ones topside are deeply affected - even if they had no role...

    Limiting on Florida bugs

John - so you DID go out on Sunday!!! Was WAY too tired after Fri and Sat diving, so relished the chance to stay home on the couch with my tenderized hands :) We limited out also out of Canaveral, but took three dives by two divers and two dives by one diver to reach it - some areas had NONE...

Big Triggers are moving inward around SE Fla

Mambo - that'd work :) Pretty much anywhere, but string them though their mouth and be REAL careful of that dorsal fin - there's a super-sharp barb camo'd in the fin. Tasty though! Their skulls are kind of bony, so behind eye, gills, etc would all be good choices. If you look in the pic -...

It could have been pretty bad...

Similar incident happened with me and some girlfriends (one ended up in hospital overnight)..........rental gear, started delivering water and air suddenly at 60 ft - 1st friend/dive, took reg out and passively paniced.........DM brought her up and to closest boat (he was EMT and nurse on-board)...

Big Triggers are moving inward around SE Fla

Watch out for those pearly whites and their razor dorsal - string in the mouth out the gills or they'll take a piece of you with them...........they dull the knife when filleting, but are VERY tasty!!!

How many dives did you have?

Somewhere between 250 and 300, started going out on dives solo on occasion, intentionally. Since I spearfish, sometimes would get separated from buddy and finish dive by self - which was fine with me. Now have almost 400 dives (at least, working on logbook - it might be more - LOL) and have...
