If you want the "best bang diving" for the "buck"

Try to book a tirp on the Ultimate Getaway out of Ft Myers. You can get a 4 day trip for $700-$800 that includes all food, all diving, air fills, etc. and get 20+ dives over 4-5 days since it's a liveaboard. They have Nitrox also. Add abournd $200-$250 for airfare to Ft. Myers. no rental car required, so saves some extra $$

Fly to Las Vegas for the weekend, turn that $1,000 into $25,000 and do an around-the-world dive trip hitting all the major continents except Antarctica. Of course if you're lucky, and reach $50,000, you can do that continent and the others in greater style and comfort... but I wouldn't stretch your luck!

Naa, it fell through. Too many people with conflicting schedules, but Ft. Lauderdale was the top contender.
