The only common link between these two fatalities, apparently, is that both victims were over age 55.
Man dies after dive on HMS Maori (reported June 1, 2011 at independent.com.mt)

A 61 year old foreign diver died in hospital yesterday after an apparent diving incident, the police reported.

The police became aware first at about 11.20am when they were informed that their assistance was needed at il-Fossa, in Valletta.

The man was given assistance by a medical team.

Investigations showed that the man had been diving with some others when he apparently surfaced and was brought ashore. Members of the Civil Protection were also on site.

Duty magistrate Anthony Vella is conducting an inquiry.
Bulgarian diver dies (reported June 22, 2011 at independent.com.mt)

A 58-year-old Bulgarian died yesterday afternoon, while diving just under Ta’ Fra Ben in Qawra.

The Police, the Civil Protection Department and the Armed Forces of Malta had joined forces in an intensive search for the diver, which was under way after the information emerged that a man was missing.

The news that the man, who was diving together with a group of around 10 Bulgarian nationals, was missing, first came in at around 5.40pm.

Around two hours later, the AFM retrieved the lifeless body of the diver.
