Planning to buy a G9 early next year with the Canon DC21 housing I was a bit worried about the fact that there are currently no lens adapters available. After seeing the stunning photo's Ed took with his modified housing, I made up my mind that I will definitely go the same route.

Zeeman was kind enough to supply a link to a DIY tutorial complete with pics, which made me even more exited... But then I stumbled onto the following site in Japan by accident... Well truth be told someone in the Australia forum mentioned that this site in Japan sold cameras/housings etc at a good price, and I went snooping around.

Anyways they have a 67mm lens adapter for Canon DC housings with an oval port that will fit a DC6(A710), DC8(A630/A640), DC11(G7), DC16(A720), DC18(A650) and DC21(G9).

Judging from the photo, it looks like it might work, but then again, I'm no expert in using lens adapters, so I'll appreciate some input of what you guys think about this device.

Thanks,
Adriaan

I got some photos of Ed's adapter to his housing and tried to make it work. I didn't think it worked that well so I figured an alternative design. I also have the bayonet type lenses. I sewed a 3mm neoprene sock that was narrow at one end to accept the doubled lenses and wider at the other end to go around the uw case. I adhered hook side velcro to the uw case's lense surround. So I just keep the neoprene rolled up around the lenses and when I take them off the holder on my ultralight arms I roll the neoprene sock down around the velcro. It is a two handed operation but the neoprene is adjustable so you can make sure the lenses are centered on the camera lense. I found this worked pretty good for me on my present trip. I also place the lenses directly against the glass of the uw case lense port.

I've got a Canon A640 with DC8 housing and have been wondering how to adapt a wide angle lens.

Have you guys got the link to Ed's and Zeeman's conversion, I'd really like to have a look at them and get some ideas.

JBB, have you got any pics of your conversion?

Steen,

As for that adapter, should be good for the closeup lenses, but I would be concerned about using it with a wide angle add on lens as it would sit pretty far from the G9 lens at its wide setting. I think that's why Ike provides that short port for their housing.

FYI, uwdigitalcamera.com (nature photo) is the shop I used to order my S&S housing. Yuzo, the owner, is pretty knowledgeable and reliable.

Thanks Pakman!

Here's another more reasonably priced adapter sold by a Taiwanese shop... (although the adapter looks like it will block more of the internal strobe...)
