For clarification.. it's Dodd's Narrows...

The narrow passage is south of Nanaimo... having navigated there I can only imagine what it would have been like towing a 737 through it... guess someone did some planning with respect to the tides and currents :)

Reading this dialog has been interesting, sorry I did not sign in earlier.
The facts are, it's going to be sunk about a 1/2 mile north of the boat ramp in Chemainus, about a 1/4 mile off shore, you could try to swim to it but I would not recommend it. You will certiainly be able to access it by scooter, boggie board or row boat if you wish.
We are not too concerned about the corrosion as lots of aircraft are still at the bottom from WWII, also the superstructures granted of a heavier gauge of all the destroyer escorts up here are made of aluminum.
The 727 in florida was poorly plannned and executed. Too shallow, too much current, structurely damaged by cutting off the wings and tail to move it, and then pinning it back togeather. She was chained to the bottom where the continued motion due to the current literally sawed it into pieces. Then to add insult to injury a hurricane came along and blew the damaged remains all over the bottom. We will not make these same mistakes.
We think it's going to be a very cool dive and hope you will all join us hopefully early October when we hope all the permits will be in. We have budgeted 66K to do the project and have raised 52K so far. If anyone wants to help. donate or come on board as a corporate sponsor check out the web site or contact me directly. We are having very cool raffle for a whites drysuit, check it out on the site too. First Nations have been very receptive and are looking at Eco tour & diving charters as part of there economic development. We hoper to work with them closely in the future.
In closing the ARSBC has been very helpful in assiting me in aquiring this project and guiding me through the mine field of government paperwork. There will be very little profit in this for the ARSBC, the rational for not making these reefs shore dives is not one of profit for dive centers or operators but that the dive industry does not need bodies. You have all seen scuba gear, including, tanks, BC's regs etc at thrift stores non of these outlets offer wreck training let alone openwater courses. I know that in my youth if I found some scuba gear like that and knew there was a 737 to check out, I might have tried to have a look.

Happy diving hope to see you all up here for the sinking event early October.
