I highly recommend the SDI Solo Diver Manual. I took the course late this past season, having no prior solo experience. I found the book easy to read, to the point, and highly practical. Even if I never actually dive solo, I like the way it got me thinking differently. I feel like I'm a more capable diver simply from having been challenged to look at things from a solo standpoint.
