Well, diving last week around Cozumel, my Atmos Ai went into its fatal fault mode, AL T. From a 12 year old computer? Luckily I had a 20 year old Genesis as well as my first generation Citizen Hyper Aqualand as both are reliable and bombproof.

Aeris not only does not support maintenance on that Atmos Ai but the best they will do is offer a 20% discount on RETAIL - which is eaten into just with sales tax. Whooppee - BFD. I guess that crapified service is one way to ensure profits.

So, the question is whether I should even trust the reliability and accuracy of products prone to crap out while diving where the manufacturer does not offer service/support? Don't think that I'd trust my life to such.

For a 12 year old computer???? How terrible of it!

OMG! You really feel that a computer, after 12 years, is "prone to crap out while diving?" I see that you have somewhere between 200 and 499 dives, and I assume that the computer has been on most of them? Really, how long do you expect it to last? I think 12 years is pretty admirable.

20% discount off retail is unbelievable generous.

Not really: MSRP is just something to make you feel good about all the money you saved on the great deal you got. E.g. MSRP on Cressi Leonardo is $270 and you buy one for $199.

Edit: as you're not in .us and may be used to different price-setting policies. If instead I missed the invisible sarcasm tags -- my apologies.

I've sent both of mine in to Aeris which were exchanged for refurbished units - pressure sensors both times. I like them but next failure, it may be time to look around. GF has a Luna which I like (I can read it on her wrist) and isn't as conservative as that darn Suunto she had before. If you got 10 yr out of it, you did well - better than me for sure.
