I love Monterey diving! So far I've dove in the Blue Hole (New Mexico), a couple of spots in the Carribean & Florida, and Hawaii. My favorite remains Monterey! I think it's the perfect combination of challenge, incredible scenery, and marine life.
Definitely use a hood and gloves! I can't say how much having a hood helps! Also, make sure that your hood has a very large tail all the way around that can be tucked into the wetsuit to form a good seal.
