DIVE #116, THE AIRPLANE WRECK! We have been working on exploring a local airplane wreck for years. This weekend we finally got the planets to align so we could film it. We don't know what kind of plane it is but we do know its blue and there's a lot of water damage.

We also did a promotion during a local Bluefish Tournament on WICC. We are trying our best to promote Scuba Diving locally however we can.

This is awesome! Do you have the coordinates for this dive? is there a marker for it there? I'm a pilot and an aircraft mechanic, but unfortunately, I can't see enough in the video to identify the airplane :-( I would tend to say, though, that the props were probably not spinning when it hit the water, since only one blade is bent. They'd all be bent if they were running at speed when it hit, or so I would imagine.

Very few people know where this site is and it is not marked. We have been made aware of a few more airplanes sites in The Sound. There is a smashed up P-47 on the NY side of the sound. Maybe next year we will hit some other ones. :)

Could be a Queen air or a Navajo.... The compartment behind the engine is a baggage area... If you have pictures of the side windows makes it easier to help identify... The N# numbers are on the side of the plane back behind the wings.. With the registration numbers you can find out everything about it on the FAA website.. Would all so be able to get the NTSB report on the crash...

And , That you for the reminder of how cold and deep black it was diving the sound back in the late 70's and early 80's....

Jim...
