Some of you may recall we had a DCS incident after a Rock Lake trip this fall. As a result of the dominoes falling after that, Ocean First Divers is having a social tomorrow evening that will feature a talk by Dr. Bill Clem, the hyperbaric physician who treated the case.

Here is the official announcement:

Ocean First Divers is pleased to have Dr. Bill Clem of Colorado Hyperbaric Physicians at our February social event. Dr. Clem will be discussing the affects of higher altitudes on a diver's physiology and the particular procedures to follow when diving at lower atmospheric pressures. He will also share with us interesting information regarding hyperbaric medicine and recompression treatment. This is great knowledge for all divers to have, especially those who enjoy diving in Colorado and the surrounding area. Don't miss this interesting evening!

Time: 6:30 - 8:30pm
Light refreshments will be served.
Please RSVP to Boulder SCUBA Shop | Boulder Dive Shop | Ocean First Divers

John,

Good to see you on Saturday at OFD.

If you wouldn't mind, what was your personal takeaway and what will you change going forward?

Are you going to NM this week?

Were there any handouts or other materials from the talk that you can share?

Jerry

Ditto to that!!

This is something that can be an issue for us Divers with Altitude. Shallow dives at BH don't offer as big a challenge as the deeper dives at Rock. But, additional information for all dives is NEVER a bad thing!

He did not give any handouts. He gave a general talk about decompression theory and why altitude matters. Much of his information comes from Bruce Weinke. If you are already familiar with those concepts already, much of it would not be new to you. It would be interesting to hear a real debate between someone like that and someone who is not a believer that altitude matters.

One interesting thing is that he believes that the sooner you get into treatment the better. Consequently, for places that are remote from a chamber, he favors In Water Recompression, provided you have a full face mask, oxygen, diver who can attend, etc.

John, a bit more of a heads up would be good for future events! :D One day makes it next to impossible to plan, especially as many (most?) of us may not be on SB EVERY day.

Sorry--I somehow missed the announcement myself until the last minute. I actually posted it a few minutes after I saw it.
