I will be traveling back to Hawaii with my wife for our 20 year anniversary. My wife has dove before on the Big Island, with an instructor on an intro to scuba package. She is ready to do it again. Looking for larger more stable boat and operators with a lot of patience for her. We will be staying at the Westin, mahalo for any suggestions. I have enough gear for both of us, if there is a better price with bring your own equipment. I am an advanced southern california beach diver, I'll dive anywhere.

There are alot of GOOD dive boats on Maui. One close to you would be Lahaina Divers. I have used them several times and always had a blast. Another thing you might want to try is a scooter dive with scubahawk27 on these forums. I have had a blast on those things, He and his wife are Great people and divers.

Plus one for Lahaina divers. Also, on the west end there are some sheltered shore sites very good for discover scuba diving non-certified diver excursions, especially Black Rock, located on the beach by the Sheraton at Kaanapali. The activities center there can set her up for that adventure. She may want to consider getting certified while you are there. Lots of great dives appropriate only for certified divers, and many of those are really for experienced divers. Shore diving is the best value, unless you need to hire a DM to go with you. In that case, enjoy a nice boat ride and pampering with Lahaina Divers. The Maui Dive Shops have a free shore diving guide that I think is very useful. They have good rates on tanks and weight and dive flag rental, too.

It's a drive from where you are staying, but B&B Scuba is VERY good with beginners.

I am a big fan of HP tanks and have a DIN reg, any of the shops carry HP tanks? If not I do have a din-yoke adapter, but thought I would ask. Thanks for all the suggestions, the scooters sound like fun, but don't know if my non-certified wife can use one. I will send a PM.

Maui dreams have several aluminum 80's that have convertible valves. I don't know about any other shops as I always go there. I'd bring your yolk adapter in case where you rent tanks from dont have din. You will most likely need your yolk adapter on any boat dives. Nobody on Maui rents steel or hp tanks that I know of. Tank rentals is very inexpensive. For example a 10 tank card including air at Maui dreams is only $40. Nitrox not necessary for 95% of the shore dives. Have a great time.

Tim Rollo at www.tinybubblesscuba.com does shore dives including scooters in West Maui. If you want to do shore diving, Tim's your man in West Maui.

Given your wife's experiences and needs, I'd recommend Lahaina Divers as well. Their boats are big and comfortable and given the time of year you're going, it is likely they won't be full. They also depart out of Lahaina which is 10 minutes from the Westin.
