I was thinking of taking advantage of Jet Blue's deal to Ponce, Puerto Rico from JFK, and I've read that Mona Island has spectacular diving.
Anyone had the opportunity to reinforce or debunk that claim?

BTW, any info on diving PR is greatly appreciated.

Mona used to be the top place in PR to dive long time ago.
You couln't get in the water without seeing large pelagics of all kinds
(constant visibility over 100 ft helped see everything around you).
It is my understanding that it has changed drastically for the worse.
Several independent stories say the large pelagics are long gone,
Viz remains good and currents still rip hard. Access to the island is
not easy due to lack of convenient vessels and distance.
.
An alternative is to dive along the south walls west of Ponce.
If recreational...check the Copamarina Hotel for their charters or
Parguera Divers. If techie, then Parguera is the only way to go.
Angel Rovira is tops when it comes to dive services.
