Notice how the first customer delivery date described on the Dive Rite Express page went from late July, to late August, to now, late September.

Has this discouraged anyone from pre-ordering?

Um, :icorolley I will pre-order one if you do.

Yeah, that and the fact that it uses Extendair, is the first initial run for these rebreathers, and there really isn't that much information about the unit.

You do have a thing for Big Berthas, don't you Kent?
Maybe you should have a look at the Ouroboros ...

According to the specs they knocked some weight off the DEMA prototype, but then again, they're preliminary. From the feedback I've gotten the main issue are size/weight and the Micropore cartridges. For the latter I was told additional testing would be performed and results released. As it stands, the cartridges have a MOD of 6 ata according to the print on the wrapper (and was tested at 1 ata according to their data sheet).

By the time you add the ADV and sensors that thing costs about as much as a basic Meg or PRISM, either of which I would prefer. Either will travel easier, the Meg has the edge here. Either has a better scrubber, the PRISM has the edge there.

We'll see what the say at DEMA about additional scrubber testing, and what results they got.
It's just 6 weeks away, so the wait should be worth it.

This has been a huge problem when it comes to RB Mfgs., I think many have lost confidence in RB's due to the fact that Mfg's arn't giving accurate times for delivery. Its even worse when a company such as dive rite does this as well.

The weight of the unit is a factor, about 20 pounds more than the Prism. The biggest concern is that it is new. I would give it 3-5 years so they can get the bugs worked out.

For travelling the Mini Meg (even normal Meg), PRISM, Evo and Sport Kiss are all better.

The rebreather is new, but the two major parts that require engineering are not:
The scrubber and the electronics.

The scrubber is very simple and probably hard to screw up from a reliability point of view.

The electronics are not really new, as the HH has been sold for a while.
The handsets (housings) will be new, and some code has been added to allow the trimix access
to be locked by a PIN code and some of the diagnostics aren't user accessable anymore.
Shouldn't take 3-5 years to sort out. I'd wait until next year, since none of the HH specialists
(like padiscubapro here on the board) dive the Oh-Tooptima, but they will likely be diving upgraded HHs.

The rest, bags, harness, BC, DSV, tanks and valves usually aren't major failure points.

I can't recall a SINGLE mfg meeting a release date. And times from order to delivery suck. I was told 6-8 wks for my YBOD...... wound up being 22 wks. Altho they did have some creative excuses :icorolley

I am waiting for someone to tell me who is going to custom stock 27 Cu ft steel tanks for this beast? Or are you expected to carry your own-! Youch!

That's a good point. Didn't even think about that.

The tanks are made by PST and can be ordered from them (I was looking at them for my Meg).

As far as traveling goes, that's a good question and point...
