Hi, I was flickin through a magazine in a backpacker and came across a reference to this book:

Life on an Ocean Planet by Bob Wohlers

I haven't seen it mentioned here but would be interested in any reviews especially on how in depth he goes in to oceanography

Cheers

You might get some idea from the table of contents at:
Current Publishing

It's a good High School text, around 700 pages, lots of pictures.

It made some minor news when it was attacked for a sidebar "Questions about the Origin and Development of Life" which attempted to briefly touch on creationism vs. evolution. The sidebar was reportedly later removed.

Note there is a new 2010 edition.
