Are Black Friday sales a good time to buy?

I'm recently back into diving after a many year hiatus and am getting ready to buy my first regulator set.
I had planned on buying mid-range, but well-serviced used or rebuilt gear, but I'm wondering if it is worthwhile to pay attention to Black Friday type sales.
I've always been able to find excellent condition used gear for any of my hobbies so hadn't really considered buying new. Any general opinions on the value of Black Friday SCUBA deals?
