As in, deployed outside of the United States, or deployed from a vessel to an underwater environment?

Combat divers or engineer divers?

Combat divers = no more than six months, some as short as four months.

Engineer divers = length of deployment is scoped by the size of the dive project.

An extenuating consideration may be that the dive engineer detachment deploys simply to participate in and support larger operations so the dive detachment gains deployment experience. There may or may not be that many UW engineering tasks for them to complete. But in committing an engineer dive detachment to a deployment like this, leaders are careful to weigh how much skill degradation the detachment may suffer by not being in an environment where they can train on their core dive skills.
