The wife and I took NAUI dive classes 2 years ago and have been diving only once since then. Our anniversary is next month and we are going to Catalina for the weekend. Should we do a shore or boat dive? Since we are still very green we think that we should at least do something with a professionaly guide. What do you think?

Thanks

Nick

after that kind of long break don't you think you should take a refresher PADI course..or equivalent?
Without a doubt you should have a professional guide. Catalina is a beautiful place...i hope you arent flying in, scary landing if you are. Do yourself a favor..hire a sailboat out of long beach and sail over an afternoon its romantic and alot of fun.

No flying, just the express in for the speed. As far as being super newbies, we have already decided to do a dive with an instructor and may actually do our first days dives in a refresher course there at the island and the second day off a guided boat or shore.

Thanks for the input

I definately think you both should do a refresher course after such a long haitus.

From what I understand about the Pacific coast shore diving, if you aren't familiar with it, it can eat your lunch! One of the local DM's would probably be willing to take you out for a fee.

I think the sailboat sounds like a perfect idea for an anniversary!

Catalina's Casino Point won't eat anyone's lunch....it won't even nibble your crackers! If you simply stop by ScubaLuv or Catalina Divers Supply, you can get a nice instructor to guide you for a couple dives. If you make it thru a couple guided dives, you can evaluate if you are able to handle the rest yourselves. There are so many rescue certified divers hanging out there that your only real danger on a busy summer day is being rescued by accident! You may even be able to find a nice couple to buddy with when you have your finning legs back.

If you stay on land, you can also enjoy hiking, Kayaking, dancing by night, and many other nice "dating" activities. If the live aboard sounds more attractive, get some refresher action ahead of time as DMs don't really guide underwater on these boats.

Thanks a million guys/gals. Im sure we will have a blast, I think I was even kicking in my sleep last night! I am going to book an instructor today!

Well, we did a couple shore dives over the weekend and had a total blast! Even if vis was limited to 10 friggin feet, it was really nice getting our feet wet again! We plan on doing a dive this weekend and next weekend in preparation for our trip. I think we will be very comfortable come Catalina time.
