Hi,
I recently purchase a Dive Rite backplate & trekwing assembly. Before my dive, I asked my instructor, who assisted me w/ the purchase, if hand-tightening the wingnuts were enough (NO lock-washers present), and he said yes, as well as checked the tightness himself.
Unfortunately, during my 1st dive w/ my brandnew equipment, after only a few minutes underwater, at about 15 meters, a dive buddy noticed both wingnuts missing. We aborted the dive, and when we were back in the boat, the dive buddy who noticed the problem said that my wingnuts should not only be tool-tightened, but should also have wingnuts.
After the dive, I asked the shop where I purchased the equipment what the procedure should be, and they said when the equipment is brandnew, tool-tightening is necessary. Afterwards, hand-tightening is sufficient. Furthermore, lock-washers are not necessary.
Then I asked the distributor of Dive Rite, and this time they said lock-washers are necessary but hand-tightening is sufficient.
What's the real deal here???
Regards,
Reggie
