Took the kayaks out at the newly re-opened BathTub Reef Park. No shower or bath facilities yet, but still a great place to get wet.

Paddled out to the third reef and was greeted by a cute little 3' nurse shark swimming around. Saw plenty of assorted tropicals including pork fish, margate, juvi angles, tangs, seargent majors, snook, jacks, nurse sharks, a HUGE mutton snapper, and a lion fish (just kidding :lotsalove:) Water was warm and clear: 78 with 20'+ visibility. SOO funny when my brother dumped his yak in the surf trying to show off for some cute babes.:rofl3: While chasing his yak down after collecting sunk gear he found a mask-snorkel combo! For once we actually came away with more gear then we started.

Check out Creature footage Video shows yak launch, assorted nurse sharks and yak-surf landing

Steve-- Awesome! What's with the $8.00 life jacket in the photo? I shove mine WAY down in the hatch-- but I am reckless like that.

I have spoke to Jim Oppenborn (St Lucie County Marine Resource Coridinator) a few times about more shallow reef programs. The County is crunched for funds these days but I might call him again when I get back to day shift in August.

They have done quite a few things in the 50 ~ 90 depths.

Great video. What video editing software did you use to add the sound? Can you take a raw avi file to start with?

Thanks for the video. Where is Bathtub
Reef?

Stuart, just north of St. Lucie Inlet:D

I put that life jacket under the bungies months ago, and just left it for fear of forgetting it and hassle by marine patrol. Shallow reef program? Im interested What do they do and how can I help?

COOL----whats up with the steel drum 70s porno music?

:rofl3::rofl3:

This looks like a great spot. How far offshore were you, what was the depth, and is it shallow enough for snorkeling?

For those who don't know, Bathtub is so shallow you can almost walk the 200-250 yard out to the reef. CAREFULLY make it over to the outside- remember, the worm rock is alive and protected by law-if it crunches, you've killed it. There is a gap just to the south of the parking lot where kayaks can safely crossover. Once on the outside, the reef runs south to the inlet and gets deeper offshore. If you stick close to the first reef, its 1-8' deep- great for beginner 'norklers. Get out there while its clear!
