Basically you have to decide between low-self-discharge (LSD) batteries and high-capacity batteries. Eneloops are LSD batteries, their capacity is only around 2000 mAh, but they will hold that charge for years. Regular NiMH batteries come at much higher capacities, but they will lose up to 30% of their charge in the first 24 hours, might be down to 50% after a week and will be completely dead within a few months. In other words, if you don't use up your high-capacity non-LSD batteries right after being charged up, they pretty much lose their capacity advantage over LSD batteries.
