Hi

I have dived Phi Phi / Koh Tao before and loved it but it was normally in February / March.
Would love to do the Similan Islands but seen they do not open till November.

Where is the best place to dive in Thailand in the 2nd week of October for weather / visability etc....

Thanks for any info..

Steve

Some of the better daytrips around Phuket and Koh Lanta:
Try to get on a boat to Hin Daeng and Hin Muang. You wrote you've been to Phi-Phi already but have you dived SharkPoint (Hin Musang) too?
There's also some very good diving at Koh Ha.
:D

There are several boats with trips to the Similans scheduled in October. Of course whether they actually make the trip will depend both on the weather and sufficient bookings. If you want the Similans, it might be worth trying for a trip as long as you understand that there's a risk of cancellation. In that case you can always do the daytrips Bowmouth suggests above.

Weather conditions and bookings yes, but until further notice the park shall open at best 1st of November therefore if nothing changes, the boats going there in October will break the rules, don't think it's good to encourage that, but as mentioned, there are good alternative day trips to several dive sites. Hin Daeng and Hin Muang, are also supposed to be closed during this period...

It's incredible that so many sites are closed for diving. It all started years and years ago with "just closing Fantasea Reef for 1 or 2 seasons" and look what we have now.
I'm all for re-generation, conservation and preservation but closing major live-aboard dive sites for years and years on end and day trip dive destinations for 6 months a year is ridiculous.
It's no wonder that the few sites we still have left to dive are often crowded with divers.

:D

Shark Point and Phi Phi are accessable from Ao Nang. There is also one operation there starting up trips to Hin Daeng in October too, so you should have a good choice of sites as long as the weather holds.
