Mask squeeze can sneak up on you, so yes you may need to add a slight puff of nasal air more frequently. Usually the mask will press in uncomfortably tight. When it can't close in any tighter and you go deeper a relative vacuum forms and you essentially get a facial hickey. So it you are feeling the pressure perhaps you should respond to it quicker. Are you making rapid descents?

Are your nasal passages good and clear? Usually the pressures eqilibrate on their own.

If you don't learn something obvious here I'd see a doctor, preferably one who is scuba savvy. This does not sound like something you want to endure on a long term basis.
