Got up to the bridge this morning for a 7:30 am high tide. Buddy and I cut the dive at 90 minutes, which turns out was a good thing as the Portuguese Man O' Wars were coming in (on an outgoing tide, go figure!)

I'm shooting with a Wide Angle lens until I get a macro lens. Turns out I can get just as close with the WA and zoom (which ain't that close!!!) with this set up as without the WA and zoom

This PMOW had tentacles about 20ft long! One of them ended up getting caught in my fin strap and I couldn't get it off. Thank God for neoprene!!!
Fish ID?

A juvenile amberjack, I think

Great find. Number one is a Portuguese man of war fish.
Filmed one last year, really sharp electric blue colors and flying fish like fins when posturing.
Downside is to get that you are working in amongst the stinging tentacles.
Tried to find another but not yet. :D

There were quite a few PMOWs accumulating out front by the time we got out. We told a couple visitors they really don't want to be swimming, and a short time later the lifeguard came by and told others that it might not be smart to be in the water.
Would LOVED to have gotten closer, but I swear the MOW was seeking me out! Eventually I turned to get away and the thing was following me! Dang it! Oh, I looked down and that's when I saw a tentacle stuck in my fin strap! The tentacle was wrapped around my leg and over my foot. Like I said, thank God for neoprene!!

As far as the last one being a juvi amberjack, that is my "best guess."

There were a lot of mow-fish!

Nice stuff Jenny. Was that the same day?

Think you have ten in that frame.

I'm not sure that if a MOW is tied to your your ankle that can count as stalking you:D:D:D

It is great to see them flair that pectoral fin out!

John

Yes, same day, same dive, new MOW with un-ripped off tentacles! LOL

and yes, that MOW was following me. :D

that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

I just checked Protides website for tide info this weekend. Saturday is 9:11 am, and Sunday is 10:45. That doesn't sound right?
Thinking as I am typing, wondering if the info is pulled from a database based on it's time and has not allowed for the DST? Thus, the tide time for Sunday should be 9:45- LOCAL TIME. That makes more sense.
Ok, back to :coffee:

Greetings all,
KBeck and I will make an attempt to dive the bridge on Sunday morning. Anyone else interested? We both need to do some gear checks for the season ahead...

Sounds fun but I am pretty much only night diving right now. I wouldn't take Jenny's suggestion about the (earlier) tide time on Sunday too seriously...I think it was before she had her coffee. :D
