Some people have been asking me about compatibility between different backplates and wings. They all have DR wings, but were wondering if Halcyon/OMS/etc. will work with them. What is compatible and what is not?

Also, are single tank adapters manditory if you are not always going to be diving doubles? And are all the single tank adapters universal to the bp?

Ryan,

The only "standard" amoung backplates is the 11" spacing between the upper and lower holes used for securing either banded manifolded double tanks, or for mounting a single tank adapter (STA).

If one uses a STA the camstraps do not pass through the wing and the plate, they only pass through the STA.

If one is planning on mounting the tank directly to the plate without a STA, then the camstraps need to pass through BOTH the center panel of the wing, and through slots int he center channel of the Backplate.

This is where there can be compatiblity issues. If the slots in the wing, and in the plate do not line up it may not be possible to directly (so called STA-less) secure the tank to the plate.

Hope this helps,

Tobin
