I am understand that Barrie Town Council is considering closing down the Morrison as the entry is quite dangerous and a few people have fallen. The entry is big rocks and chunks of concrete right now. I was thinking of heading up a committee to raise funds to build a permanant set of cement stairs down into the water. This would make the entry very safe and hopefully never have to close the Morrison from diving. I will be attending the next Town Council meeting in Barrie to find out if this idea is possible. Does the diving comunity think stairs are a good idea? I will be needing some quotes as to cost? I am also going to talk to the Ontario Lottery Corporation as they have been known to support ideas of this nature. What about SOS? Comments , help, quotes, support would be appreciated.

I think steps (or a ramp) would be a great idea. Unfortunately, with the attitude of insurance companies these days, I suspect Barrie would prefer to shut it down. And since it's waterfront, you might find the cost rather prohibitive. If it did go ahead, I'd be willing to kick in a few $$. ]

Practical side, I think the easiest and cheepest, would be to use a crane to lift in a set of pre-cast steps and then fill between the steps and shore with a some well placed large rock (or concrete) and gravel.

If I recall, it's a pretty fair swim around the point from the beach area and right across a very popular PWC spot. I don't find the rocks that bad anyway.

And why your at it why not petition the city of Barrie to put up a sign on the grass letting all those people walking by and asking you whats down there, to know there's a wreck out there with some history just under the water. Believe me, know one cares about diving in Barrie city council and fixing up a boat ramp and or park swing is easier done. If you put anything on the shore you can and probably will be fined by the city and park commission.

I agree that precast is probably cheaper and much simpler, thanks that's what I need to know stuff like taht. yes beach is easy but human nature says the shortest way is the best and people will always climb down over the rocks.

this project will be done with all proper permits and in full co-operation with town council

Hi

I've been around diving allot longer than most of you on this board, 25 years now and Your fooling your selves if you think your going to get any cooperation from Barrie city council. You put steps there and now the city of Barrie is Liable for any diving accidents because they are now inviting divers. Ask around and see just how many diving clubs over the last 20 years have tried and failed. Hence no guide lines to the wreck or signs about diving have ever been put in place by Barrie city council and or parks.. but it is a noble effort.

Large two-direction stairs were put in at the Casino Pt. Dive Park here on Catalina. You might check with the Harbor Dept. here for any details on how it was done if you think they can offer any suggestions. Can't remember who actually did the work.
