Hey! Going solo on the Spirit of Freedom in Oct then have 4 days to spend around Cairns. Looking for some fun ideas.

Thanks!

You can do the tourist route - by way of package tours or group trips - or be independent (get around yourself). Either way, it's easy to organise things around Cairns as it is a tourist hotspot.

Bit of sightseeing: Can go up to Daintree or Cape Tribulation

Do a daytrip to Port Douglas

Drive through the Tablelands (which is altitude so not right after diving).

And there are other touristy things like bungee jumping, crocodile farms etc.

Or you can go to one (or few) of the local watering holes.

Have fun

If you like wildlife, then you would enjoy the "wait-a while" tour. We took this tour and were quite pleased. The tour company will pick you up from your hotel, the tours are small 6 to 8 people at most. The tour takes you for a ride to the Tablelands where you'll hike into the forest and see hugh curtain figs and the guide will point out different birds, lizards and other animals. We proceeded on to have tea and scones at a restaurant overlooking a volcanic lake. From the lake we took a trail along its edge and saw different species of plants, birds, lizards and amphibions. Next we went to an area to spot the Duck-billed platypus of which we had several sightings. Out to supper that was enjoyed by all in a quaint mountain restaurant. After supper we headed back into the rainforest with spot lights to see marsupials like the copperbacked possum, tree kangaroos and bushy tailed possum. We also spotted several frogs, a leaf tailed lizard, bandicoots and owls. The rainforest was alive with animals.
A touristy thing to visit is the Skyrail, but it was worth it. Karunda was a village at the end of the Skyrail going up the mountain. At the village there is a habitat with Kangaroos, Walabyes,Wombats and Koala bears. At the end of the Skyrail on the bottom there was a theatre with an Aboriginal culture show.
The town of Cairns has allot of interesting shops and plenty of restaurants.

Hope you have a great time, we did.
