The math isn't complicated. No reason not to understand what it is and how the calculation works

Not saying the math is complicated. One should understand the fundamentals of calculating the MOD if diving nitrox. No different than everyone posting an excel spreadsheet or using the tables for reference.

The point of understanding the calculations is to sanity check what your computer is telling you.

Remember the Mars lander where they mixed up meters and feet and augered the probe? If you don't understand the principles, you have no alternative but to blindly accept what the computer tells you.

None of this is magic and it is really only Jr. High algebra.

A very profound statement, it is not rocket science.

If your computer screws up how do you know what to do?

A friend of mine bought a computer that gave standard air readings even when 32% O2 was dialed in and was screaming at her during the first dive.

Technology is great when it works but when it doesn't you better understand some of the theory and can identify where the problem might be.
