My BCD has in it's tank buckle (in the upper border) a drawing of how to thread the band.
It's where it's needed.

Great document.... (two sided colored web, well done.)

When I worked in a dive store, all the BCDs would come from the manufacturer without the cam band installed so I got a lot of good practice at the funky little buckle weave.

I have met enough Masterdiver Divermasters that couldn't properly weave that buckle that I think it should be the final exam for any DM course.
 
Fortunately my can band buckles have a threading diagram on them too. I've seen a number of DMs and even some instructors who didn't have a clue.
