The material used is a blend of natural rubber and polypropylene. This same material is widely used in "under the hood" applications in auto, and in window guide rails.
The material vendor has run tests on samples recovered from cars that over 20 years old, and found very little degradation.
The cam strap tension pads can be torn with rough handling, but the material does very well with regard to environmental exposure.
