i am looking to purchase either a halcyon explorer 4.5 AH 10w HID or a 9AH 18w HID light. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is the 10w powerfull enough.

Thanks

I would say, get the most wattage that your wallet can afford, so you don't end up with HID envy.

Is there a reason you're not entertaining other brands besides the H?

are there any other brands that you would recommend? Is the difference in wattage that noticable?

You should definitely look at Salvo. The Salvo 10w is supposed to be brighter than the others, but you can't get it with a goodman handle. If you want 21w, then the new Halcyon Explorer lights are probably better because some of the internal canister parts are sealed. The older Halcyon lights are not any better than the Salvos.

Perhaps you should tell us what application you need the light for?

10W works fine inside a cave. Outside you'll want something bigger like an 18 or 21.

Sure you can. :)

I forgot about that one. I was talking about the one with the MR11 head. It is only available with the elastic handle.

10W is probably more suitable for night diving. Might not work that well for communication in brighter environments.

I am happy with my Salvo 21W light. Seek out Brent (known as hunter991 on this board), he might be able to hook you up with some Salvo lights.

If you decides to settle with 10W focusable lights, I personally think that the Halcyon 10W focusable light head is better than that of Salvo's. My friend has a 10W Salvo light (http://www.salvodiving.com/10_104_010) and the light head looks identical to my 21W which I think the focus beam for a 10W light wouldn't be as good as that of the Halcyon ones (http://www.halcyon.net/lights/explorer.shtml).

Also heard some goot comments on Green Force lights (www.mantaindustries.com), might want to check them out as well.
