Im trying to decide which housing to get for my G10.

The Canon '28 seems really well priced but its lacking the control of the manual dial on the back ( I think).

While The Ikeilite has full control of the camera, has a greater depth rating but is a little bulkier and 3 times the price.

Are there any more options in the affordable range?

Is there anyway to still have manual control of aperture etc using the canon housing or will I be for ever disappointed with the far cheaper housing?

One thing that could be really off putting to anyone considering Ikelite G10 is this:

The Canon G10 features a 28mm wide angle setting, even wider than the Canon G9's 35mm lens. Even with the shortest port possible, external wide angle conversion lenses cannot be used to any advantage. No wide angle options are currently available for this housing.

I don't have G10 yet, but G9 with canon housing. I think almost similar. Indeed there's no dial control on WP-DC21, but the functinalities to a adjust manual apperture and speed can be done by using two button. I always use manual mode and has no problem to any control. In fact, more often to adjust the strobe power rather than the apperture or speed which has been preset on mymode. Not sure w/ G10, but with converter is possible to install external WA for G9, but I believe will be useless. No problem for makro lenses.

I had a hard time finding this myself, and am in the exact same situation you are, so I am happy to share.
While in Av or Tv mode, with the appropriate adjustment "slider" in view and "active" on the LCD, you press and hold the "shift" button on the top left corner of the rear, and then toggle left or right by pressing on the sides of the 4-way selector on the right side of the rear. You will see the slider move accordingly. Takes 2 hands, but accomplishes the same as the rotating dial.
Sounds harder than it is. try it.

But how much do you really gain by adding a wet lens versus putting a done port on instead? If you put the 28mm behind a dome port it is a true 28mm lens whereas behind a flat port it more like a 35mm. So now add the wet lens and now what is it? A 20mm??

I am really hoping that folks (ikelite, patima, or sea&sea) make a small dome for this camera. As that would do way for the need for a wet lens for most.

Excellent, this is good stuff. You just saved me $400us.
Im going to order the Canon housing on Monday unless I can think of a reason not to!!!

Cheers :)

Glad to be helpful. So now you can buy me one too and still be ahead $200!!!!! LOL. I am probably going to wind up going with the /28 as well, and put the savings toward a strobe.

Rather than Av or Tv I prefer full manual mode; giving more flexibility. In Av mode, the camera will choose slow speed; but in Tv mode you will low fstop; meaning small DOF; difficult for makro.

Yup, now you will need good strobe for this great camera. the internal flash is practically useless.
With manual mode you can save the battery by setting to the lowest power internal flash to trigger the strobe.
