Hello all----have a 3000 and a 3300 Catalina ----both from 80'---it is my understanding there is no concern about "bad aluminum" ---correct?----if so,will next hydro need to be eddy ?-----and assuming all inspections go well,is age alone a concern ? any shops un-willing to fill/inspect "old aluminum" just because of age ?-----THANKS !!! AND HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!!

You are correct that you have no concern with the alloy and no need for eddy current testing.

The age may very well be an issue. Many shops are black balling aluminum (and even steel) at age 20 or other arbitrary age. This is shop practice, technically unfounded and not universal so ask around before sinking any $ into them.

Any alumnum cylinder is susceptible to sustained load cracking to some extent. If they have been stored long term at full pressure then there is a very slightly elevated risk.

Next steps are hydro and visual which should include a thread inspection.

Pete
