I also ultrasonic my hose ends - being sure to remove all o-rings beforehand - including the one inside the LPi Quick Disconnect (don't forget the schrader valve also!)

Any acid based cleaner like vinegar will eat away plating, so you have to be careful on those older hoses... but I do find that acid based cleaners do a MUCH better job then less aggressive cleaners like Blue Gold. At the moment, I use Trident's Ultrasonic powder - 2-3 tablespoons in a 1/2 gallon heated machine.

Nothing wrong with using an US. But I like to double the hose so I can fit both ends into a Mason jar with a 5-10% phosphoric acid solution. I find the phosphoric acid more effective, gentler, and has a less irritating smell than vinegar or Simple Green.

I put the ends of the hoses in a shot glass with vinegar for a few minutes. Then I swirl them around in a glass of tap water to get the vinegar out.

I have the harbor freight US, it's really nothing to write home about. But I guess it works okay. For parts really covered in verdigris, it takes a few cycles in 50/50 vinegar/water.
