Combat Action Badge

First of all I would like to GIVE THANKS TO ALL AMERICANS THAT ARE OR HAVE SERVED OUR COUNTRY!!!!!

I have not been in the military but I do realize that there are many job in the military from Cook to General. Everyone plays an important role, therefore there should be recongition for excellent service in all areas. I think that each position should have it's own award that is significantly different from the others. It is not fair a service man that is in a position that is inherently more dangerous others share the same award.

This is still a volunteer military and those that volunteer for hazardous duty should be awared above and beyond those that do not.

The CAB, featuring both a bayonet and grenade, may be awarded to any Soldier performing assigned duties in an area where hostile fire pay or imminent danger pay is authorized, who is personally present and actively engaging or being engaged by the enemy, and performing satisfactorily in accordance with the prescribed rules of engagement, according to its authorizing language. Award is not limited by one’s branch or military occupational specialty.
This is from the Army homepage. Also, just for a little info, I am a 88H, which of course is a transportation specialist. Mostly, I admit, we are stuck to an airfield or ship port bringing all of OUR equipment so that WE can accomplish the mission that the PRESIDENT deems necessary. I also personally know alot of 88H that have to jump in and do 88M, 88N work when needed, which is alot because of shortages. So they are rolling out to get OUR soldiers what they need.
Before we get a little off on tandems, remember this, and this HAS to be passed to all soldiers you have (Especially you NCOs), we are fighting the same enemy and every soldier has to live by the Warrior Ethos. Remember, these days we are getting pretty crazy with "I am this...I am that...you never had to do this..." All OUR soldiers volunteered, and they are all trying to come home. Believe me, if I come to see a 88H with this badge, he or she was definitely in a unique position that they came out alive from. And they will get my respect. Later!

After sitting here and putting alot of thought into it (I hope my opinion doesn't get me into hot water but, OH WELL). Being a Combat Medic (91W4P, which I chose to be upon enlistment) and living almost the same life as they lead. I can see why there is a big uproar on this badge, I do not think that the other MOS's need a combat badge of thier own. They should be happy with a combat patch. We get a choice of what job we want to do when we enlist, if you want to shoot at people and blow things up then, by all means pick a combat arms job. If you want to be lazy and be in the "rear with the gear" then pick the truck driver job, clerk, supply (some supply does go with the infantry, so sorry dudes) and, ect.... and live in the tent cities and have hot showers and chow, then fine do it. I have spent plenty of the time deployed in foreward areas living under a poncho hooch, washing every two weeks (if possible), eating numerous MRE's and no hot chow, packing out all garbage and residual (yes, that includes human stuff as well), pulling guard duty, kicking in doors, putting sutures in, starting I.V.'s, performing search and siezure, and ect....

They do not deserve a combat badge, that is reserved for those of us who live that life.

True, officers do not get to pick their branch of service. I guess that is a drawback in thier area.

In all, be happy with the combat patch. I think it should be left alone and not bothered IMHO.

I have to agree with picking what you want to do DMP. What I am trying to get across is that who cares what badges they make up for soldiers. The one and only thing that is important is that the job is done and done to the best of your ability, whatever you are doing in this great Army. Also, that us as leaders recognise our soldiers for being there and serving, they have to know that every piece in the Army spectrum comes together for the benefit of our Nation. We have to be the ones as up and coming leaders to make sure that everyone is proud and dedicated and that they shouldn't be worried about what pieces of material they can have to velcro on their uniforms.
Me, I am a career soldier, and everyone should know that there will always be changes to Awards, Badges, Berets, etc. What stands through all these changes is the SOLDIER and their families. Thank you all for keeping our green machine rolling!
