Hello NorCal Divers!

My buddy and I are leaving San Diego on 12/26 and heading north for a diving / kayaking / camping adventure.

We don't really have any firm agenda, but we are planning to make a stop in Santa Barbara (possibly camping there) and also visit some friends in SLO. The remainder of our time will probably be spent in and around the Monterey area.

We tried to sign up for Pt. Lobos on 12/28, but no confirmation yet so we may have been too late for that...

We will probably be up through 12/29, but we may stay a few days longer if the conditions are really good (We both have the whole week off, so we are just playing it by ear)

I was wondering if any of you norcal divers might be interested in diving with a pair of socal'ers? It would be really cool to get the "local" tour and meet some of you friendly people!

Safe Diving and Happy Holidays!

I know Debbie, the Pt. Lobos reservations person, did reservations this morning
because she e-mailed me about a February reservation I made.
But their calendar is still showing openings this weekend (VERY rare this late),
so you may be in luck.

See the other thread here today for information about diving Pt. Lobos. Be sure
your learn where the end of the diving area is as your yaks can get you into
the no-dive area quickly.

We got the confirmation for Pt. Lobos on 12/28 so we will definitely be diving it that day. I have a little map of the dive area, so we should be able to keep our yaks within bounds. We'll probably try "Cannery Point Wall" (as suggested by rjens' post in the conditions thread) and anywhere else that looks nice.

Any other suggestions on places to dive in the Monterey area (both in and out of Pt Lobos) ?

I can't wait for this trip, it should be a lot of fun! :)

Dive only if conditions permit. Current forecast
for 12/28 is:
SAT AND SUN...NW WINDS 10 TO 15 KT... WIND WAVES 2 TO 3 FT NW SWELL 12 TO 14 FT.
That's way too surgy for me.

I'd stay farther from the rocks than rjens' map,
especially if it's rock and roll. I'd dive the ocean
edge of the kelp on that side of Bluefish. There's
a really nice wall there, and you may get under the
surge.

The best dive at Pt. Lobos is the Great Pinnacle (aka
Bluefish Outer Pinnacle) in
Bluefish, which can be done from a yak. It's arguably
the best dive in Monterey County.

If Pt. Lobos is blown out, there's always the
Monterey Breakwater.
