Just came across reference to an online article about the impact of sunscreen on coral reef health. It is published in the journal of the National Inst. of Environmental Health Sciences NIEHS (one of the institutes of NIH) at

Sunscreens Cause Coral Bleaching by Promoting Viral Infections

It seems it is best to wear full wet suit, hood and gloves while diving in the tropics.
