Hopefully this is the proper place for this but my BIL had a carotid artery stent put in almost a year ago. He is eager to get back to diving but his doctor knows nothing about scuba diving and even though he is in the gym working out etc. his doctor wont give the ok to dive. He wants a second opinion from a doctor that knows SCUBA and can give him an informed opinion on if he is ready to dive or what he need to do to get there. Does anyone know of a coronary doctor that has experience with SCUBA divers in the Houston, Texas area? He tried calling DAN but they were no help at all.

What is considered “no help at all” from DAN?

From what he told me they would not recommend anyone or place - seemed odd but nothing to go on. Maybe he talked to the wrong person but needless to say was disappointed.

@Duke Dive Medicine may be able to provide a referral. You might send them a private message.

Good luck,
Jay

Not a coronary doc, but board certified hyperbaric doc.

Thanks I will pass it along

If the BIL asked specifically for a cardiologist who does dive medicine in the Houston area I could see DAN not being very helpful. How many cardiologists are associated with DAN? I know of one in Florida because he was on a podcast about closing Patent Foramen Ovales.

I think the BIL would have better odds to be referred to an Internist or Family Doc affiliated with DAN.

Carotid artery stents would be more neurologist or neurointerventional radiologist territory. Dr. Le (contact info above courtesy @sea_ledford ) is the diving physician that Memorial Hermann in Houston is sending people to; I'm sure she has specialists she works with.

Best regards,
DDM

Thanks for all the input, he is calling Dr. Le to get an appt.
