We have done two dives on the Caribbean side of Costa Rica, visibility was bad but lots of life. We have tried several more times to dive there and couldn’t because of zero visibility, this seems to be the norm.

My wife did her certification on the Pacific side and we’ve done a fair amount of diving there. Don’t expect Caribbean visibility, this is a very nutrient rich area! Because of this, there is a tremendous amount of life. You’ll see huge schools of fish, lots of white tipped sharks and if you take the time, there’s a lot of macro stuff as well. There aren’t coral reefs if that’s what you’re looking for.
