My non-diving wife and I want to visit the island of Curacao. My wife loves to snorkel and we are looking for a good place to stay and I am looking for a great dive operator. Can you please offer some suggestions for both? Are there other activities for my wife to do while I am diving?

Tanks,

Jim

It is a very laid back island. More topside than Bonaire, less than Aruba, but GREAT diving!!! I love Mark & Suzy from the Dive Bus and would recommend them Highly!!!

What type of place are you looking for?? Last year we stayed at the Marriott and loved the place. A little pricey but worth it. They also have an onsite dive shop called Caribbean Sea Sports, they were effortless to deal with. We took nitrox training with them this year..

PM me if you have any questions!!!

We are looking for an inexpensive place to stay, good place but not a 5 star. I want to boat dive since I do not have a dive buddy. Do we need a car?

Define inexpensive, define good, etc. You should be able to narrow down for yourself which places fit in your budget then read or ask more about them. See if Habitat, Sunset, or Lions Dive are in your budget. None of them are fancy but could do the job.

You don't absolutely need a car anyplace but nice to have especially in some cases. Depends where you stay and what you want to do. Some areas, there is a decent amount within walking distance and taking a cab downtown would be reasonable. Some places are pretty remote, and while they may have shuttles, the schedules are often not useful if you're diving alot or want to go downtown for dinner. So you might pretty much be stuck there. Lion's Dive you could certainly do without. Habitat you might miss having a car as it's far from things and the food will get old quick. People seem pretty content with the AI food plan at Sunset and their flexibility with the shuttle so you could do without.

I haven't used the dive bus, but I think you'd be able to hook up with a buddy that way as easy as being on a boat. Assuming they pick up where you're staying. And at the real dive resorts you might have some luck hooking up with other divers for shore diving.

Anybody know what the water temp is currently in Curacao?

Thanks,

TOM

This is a link to a trip report I did for Trip Advisor in 2006. Although it's not a dive trip report, it should give you a good idea about what Sunset Waters is all about. The snorkeling off the house reef was very good, and the dive op top notch. I also can offer you this link to my PhotoBucket album:

The resort is very laid back, offers a good all-inclusive meal and drink program, has a decent beach, and is just a really nice dive resort that is close to the best dive sites on the island. You don't need a car since they have a free shuttle that will take you into town and back.
