DC 1200 fails to take picture / video issue

When using the camera for a while, and switching back and forth between pictures and video, the camera will eventually fail to take additional pictures. Nope, the memory card isn't full either.

The screen will still show what the camera is looking at but all the settings, zoom, battery info, et cetera all goes away. When I download the pictures and reset the camera it will work fine again, but only about another 20 - 30 pictures.

Any ideas for a fix?

I'm off to Truk Lagoon in a week and a half so I would love to get this fixed before I go.
